Back of the Beach

During the salt cod fishery, split and cleaned fish were left in salt bulk for two weeks and then spread to dry on flakes built on the Back of the Beach. Women and children were responsible for spreading and turning the fish.

By trying to assign each piece of information a location which can be referenced by latitude and longitude, we can:

Help tourists locate pieces that have interest to them, as well as other points found nearby
Archive areas that have held cultural significance in the community for future generations
Develop tours with people in the community that link pieces of information that are part of a story
