Last night I had a wonderful dream, I'll cherish for a while
I dreamt I was back in grandmas days, strolling around the gut
The smell of salty fishing air, I can't get it out of my mind
Those days are gone, but still linger on in our dear ole' little town

My grandma you see, was the same age as me when she played right here in Branch
As family and friends often lended a hand, with neighbours plenty and more
As they fished the sea and toiled the land, they helped each other along
Those days are gone, but still linger on in our dear ole' little town

The more I dreamt I was totally amazed by the simpler ways back then
No one had phones or motor homes, no mortgages or bank loans
No big fishing boats or modern day trucks, to drive along the road
Those days are gone, but still linger on in our dear ole' little town

The men would gather to the gut and tell of fishing tales
The women stayed in their homes and reared up all the crowd
They baked the bread and darned the socks and hung the clothes on the line
Those days are gone, but still linger on in our dear ole' little town

The times were hard way back then, no money to spend or waste
There was time to spare and time to share you could see it all around
Troubles were few and everyone knew that neighbours would lend a hand
Those days are gone, but still linger on in our dear ole' little town

When I awoke in the early morn, my dream had faded away
I was glad to see how things used to be, in days so long ago
And if ever I frown on life in my town, I'll stop and I'll think for awhile
Those days are gone, but still linger on in our dear ole' little town
